The Humantay lake is nowadays one of the most famous attraction that Cusco has, perhaps in South America. It is a great point to highlight on your trip to Peru. It is a place with great views about Salcantay glacier and proper Humantay lake. There are so many spectacular views along the way at first the Salkantay mount (6,300 m./20,669 ft.) in all it’s glory far in the distance consider the second highest point in Cusco region, another important view is the Humantay glacier (6200m./19.800ft.) Continuing after almost 3h. hike you find a gorgeous turquoise lake right at the bottom of the glacier. The colorful lake is due to the different algae and minerals located at the bottom of the lake combined with the reflection of the blue sky, also the great view complements with the surrounding mountains and glaciers, this hike is also very popular due to is part of the Classic Salkantay trek which ends in Machupicchu.

Itinerary

Day 1Cusco – Mollepata - Soraypampa - Cusco

Today we start from your hotel at 4:00am. Then we drive to the northwest over 3 hours passing different landscapes like the Andean plateau, continuing dawn with different microclimates and vegetation proper of tropical areas. It’s time we reach to ‘Soraypampa’. (3,900 m./ 12,795 ft.) Where we organize our energetic breakfast, after getting ready we start to hike upwards to the Humantay lake, on the way the views will be getting better with the spectacular views of Salkantay (6300 m./20,669 ft.), and Humantay glacier (6200 m. /20,341 ft.). We continue slow and steady and after 2 1/5 h. hiking we find a beautiful turquoise lake, Yes! We made it! Few minutes of a little of break to recover ourselves, the view is fantastic the blue – turquoise lake with the Humantay glacier in the background. Then we continue downhill taking the same path towards Soraypampa which is also our lunch place. After enjoying our lunch, we take our private van back to Cusco directly to your hotel. (average time to reach to Cusco 6 pm).
