The “lost city of the Incas” for some explorers, and for some others the sister of Machupicchu. Choquequirao is without a doubt another majestic place which means “cradle of gold” located above the raging glacier-fed Apurimac river. This archeological site is a remote and rarely visited place, probably it was one of the last refuges of the Incas and was eventually abandoned and became covered by dense cloud forest vegetation. And now Archeologist continue discovering new sectors in the city giving us more information about this great Inca Culture. This trek is perfect for those who want to play to be Indiana Jones and enjoying the high andean landscapes with beautiful snowcapped-mountains, valleys with different cloud forest ecosystems where you will have the chance to see the native animals, such as; birds, butterflies even condors flying in the deep canyons. Native flora; like orchids, medicinal plants and much more. Definitely a great option if we want to enjoy the archeology, the unique Saywite and finally having the chance to relax in a hot spring after a long hike.
